Understanding "Emergency" vs. "Urgent"

It can be hard to know what level of care you need. Here is a guide:

Emergency (Call 911/988)

  • Active thoughts of suicide with a plan
  • Immediate risk of harming self or others
  • Medical emergency or overdose
  • Psychosis or loss of touch with reality

Urgent (Book Therapy)

  • Severe anxiety or panic attacks
  • Depression affecting daily function
  • Relationship breakdown or grief
  • Burnout or high stress levels
